Divas of Kofifi

“Divas of Kofifi”, a tribute to Thandie Klaasen, Dorothy Masuka and Abigail Khubeka and written by BongileLecoge-Zulu

We are looking for the following characters:

Zawazi Jacky 

Mbatha: A young woman in her early thirties. She is the daughter of David and Jacqueline Mbatha. She runs a family jazz restaurant established by her late father.

Mlindelwa

’BabStix’ Nkosi: A 68 years old, popularly known as Stix, is a retired factory worker who is now a shoe fixer). He has run his business for 16 years now, 12 years in front of Jacky’s Oasis. He was just 7 years when he witnessed the destruction of Sophiatown. An event etched in his memory.

3 Lead Singers: Three distinctive Young lead singers who have voice ranges of Thandi Klaasen (sharp, witty, streetwise, avid dancer. Contralto with a thick vibrato);Dorothy Masuka (Jocular, naughty, direct, challenging. Soprano); and Abigail Khubeka(poised, erudite, reserved although feisty at times, model and entertainer(Alto). They also act as part of the dances and chorus.

3 Back Up Singers: 3 female singers whowill also form part of the band, dances and chorus.

3 Male Extras: Will form the acting chorus, dances and alternate in male roles.

  1. All performers should be proficient in acting, singing and dance.

This Musical will be directed by Princess Mhlongo (Standard Bank Young Artist of the Year for Theatre 2012) and produced by Shadrack Bokaba.

Successful applicants should be available for rehearsals at the Market Theatre from 1 June – 7th August 2016, with performances on 8th& 9th August 2016 at the Market Theatre, Johannesburg
